Hauppauge PVR-250 MP3 Encoding

To encode high-quality MP3 audio from Hauppage PVR-250:

1. Capture MPEG2 video using predefined WinTV 2000 setting MPEG2 2.0MBit/sec (HalfD1), which captures audio at 48 kHz, 384 kbps bitrate. This conserves disk space, since video will be discarded.

2. Install LAME MP-3 codec for Windows.

3. Install Virtualdub-MPEG2 converter software.

4. In VirtualDub, open the Hauppage MPEG2 video file (File-Open).

5. In VirtualDub, select menu Audio->Full Processing Mode.

6. In VirtualDub, select menu Audio->Compression. The list of codecs should include "Lame MP3" - click on it, then select "48000 kHz, 320 kbps CBR, Stereo" (sic). Click OK.

7. In VirtualDub, use GUI editing tools to specify start and end of audio clip (or keyboard shortcuts: Space to start/stop, Home to mark-in, End to mark-out).

8. In VirtualDub, select menu File->Save WAV, then enter a filename with an .mp3 extension. Click Save to strip audio and encode to MP3.

9. Open audio file in a media player to confirm 320 kbps bitrate and sound quality.
