Women's Election Issues

Last week, a political debating first in the US. The Nov 6th Democratic Presidential Candidates Forum tackled two of my favored subjects, gender and politics. Hosted by Planned Parenthood, the 90-min forum posed questions on issues of interest to women, a constituency described by the US Census Bureau as "most likely to go to the polls and vote".

A few clips from this debate prompted me to dust off a Perl script I wrote in March 2003 for Howard Dean's 3/15/03 speech in Sacramento, CA. After a few upates, that script is now available for public use under the GNU LGPL 1.2 license. Below are sample SMIL 1.0 + RealText clips generated by Autometa RPXP. You need RealPlayer8 (Unix, Win) or RealOne (Win) to view them.

  • Q: Women Role Models › Wesley Clark names a living California senator, prompting an energetic response from John Kerry.
  • Q: Stem Cell Research › John Kerry affirms the question and expands it to federal science policy, a baton used by Carol Moseley-Braun to discuss the confusion of ideology with science.
  • Q: The "First Friend" › It's no accident that love and war find themselves neighbors in history's proverb books.
